It is a drug obtained from a bacteria called clostridium botulinum. It was first used in 1977 in the treatment of strabismus. When its reducing effect on wrinkles was realized during this treatment, its usage for cosmetic purposes became a current issue. After 1990 it started to be used in wrinkle treatment.
In 1995, it also started to be used in the treatment of regional OVER SWEATING (hyperhidrosis). In recent years, good results have been got in the treatment of migraine and recently approved by the FDA for use in the treatment of migraine.
HOW DOES BOTILINUM TOXIN AFFECT?
It makes temporary paralysis of muscles by preventing acetylcholine release in the applied area and it reduces sweating in sweat glands. The temporary effect on the muscles occurs fully within 14 days. It returns within 3-5 months. No matter how many sessions were applied, no damage was observed in the muscles.
WHAT WE SHOULD PAY ATTENTİON DURING BOTILINUM TOXIN?
A few days before the treatment drugs that cause bruising such as aspirin, vitamin C, vitamin E, green tea should not be taken. The use of a cream with vitamin K before the application may be recommended because it reduced the possibility of bruising. However, the possibility of bruising is very low.
Botilinum toxin is applied to certain muscle groups according to the desired result.
